They preserve languages, carry ideas across generations, record the memory of cultures, and quietly accompany the lives of readers who may never meet the people behind their pages. Long after their authors are gone, they continue to educate, inspire, comfort, challenge, and connect people across places and generations.
Every book, however, begins long before it reaches its first reader. Long before the first page is printed, it exists only in the imagination of its author—in a thought, a memory, a question, a story waiting to find its voice. Publishing is the patient work of helping that voice travel beyond a single mind, preparing it to become a book that others may discover, understand, and make their own.
The work of a publisher is rarely visible, nor should it be. It takes place between the author’s manuscript and the reader’s hands: in conversations, careful editing, thoughtful design, accurate production, and countless decisions that shape a book without ever changing its voice. When this work is done well, the publisher almost disappears, allowing the author and the book to speak for themselves.
For more than three decades, this understanding has guided our work. Editura Coresi was founded in 1990 on the belief that publishing was never simply about producing books. It was, and remains, a long-term commitment to authors, readers, and the written works entrusted to our care.
As the years passed, publishing itself began to change in ways few could have imagined. New printing technologies, personal computers, email, and later the Internet gradually became part of everyday publishing. We embraced these developments from the very beginning, becoming the first Romanian publishing house to integrate email into its professional publishing activities and establish an online presence, anticipating the profound impact digital communication would have on the future of publishing.

Publishing has never been the work of publishers alone. Behind every finished book stands a quiet partnership between authors, editors, translators, illustrators, designers, proofreaders, printers, booksellers, librarians, educators, and many others whose contribution often remains unseen. Their names may not always appear on the cover, yet their work is present on every page.
It is perhaps one of publishing’s quiet paradoxes that the less visible we become, the more clearly the author’s voice can be heard. Readers remember the stories that moved them, the poems they returned to, the characters who stayed with them long after the final page. They rarely think about the editorial conversations, revisions, design decisions, and countless hours of preparation that made those moments possible. That is exactly as it should be. Our greatest achievement is not to stand beside the book, but gently behind it.
Our story has always been one of continuity as much as change. We have embraced new technologies, digital books, and audiobooks without losing sight of what a book truly represents. These are new expressions of the same thought brought to life by the author. The message remains; only the way readers experience it continues to evolve.
While the ways books reach readers continue to evolve, our responsibility remains unchanged.
